Yoga stretches out tired limbs, centers busy minds and helps still racing minds. You don’t need to be a Yoga master to enjoy a bit of a stretch with your class. I use these cards from barefoot books with my class. Just five minutes a day and children will soon enjoy stretching together
3-The calm down box
The calm down box is an tool in daily use in our classroom. It contains:
A taggy blanket to stroke and cuddle
A stress ball
An oil and water timer
A mirror to look at our expressions
A simple emotions book using photos and symbols
Ways to calm down- take 5 deep breaths etc
Any child who is feeling overwhelmed, angry or sad is encouraged to go to our calm down area and use the box. Children are praised for managing their own feelings and the aim of the box is to teach children ways to calm themselves down without needed adult intervention every time. Simple and quick to implement this idea works well for all ages and stages of development.
2- Celebrate together
From birthdays to ballet exams, new babies to weddings. Celebrating out of school sucesses and occasions can help bring a class together, and don’t forget to celebrate your own events too!
